Softball adds 9

The SCC Softball team will add 9 to their roster for the 2023-2024 season.

Head Coach Dusitn Wengert, has been a busy man, leading the charge with 9 commitments already.  "We are extremely excitied about these young ladies!  They can play, but they are great people and really fit the mold of what we want our kids to be", spoke Wengert.  The class of nine will have six young ladies from Missouri and 3 from Illinois.  This is something very important to Wengert, "Yes, we are a community college, but our sports teams must become regional, national and even internatinal if we want to continue to grow and compete.  We love our team has taken a regional approach very quickly.  These young ladies could be instant impact type of kiddos."  The nine will start their academic and athletic careers in the fall of 2023.

Kaylen Grammer - Carbondale, IL - "Kaylen is a bulldog, someone that we can give the ball to and let her work!  I have yet to find a person to talk negative about this kid.  She is very eager to get here and start to go to work."

Alyson Stortz - Perryville, MO - "Alyson is Miss Consistent.  You know exactly what you are goign to get when she hits the field.  She is a leader and some that will compete for innings right out of the gate."

Delaney Schmidt - Linn, MO - "When you talk about excitement and energy to can't talk without saying Delaney's name.  The girls wants to win and get better everyday!"

Emma Eggemeyer - Chester, IL - "STRONG! She is simply strong.  She has the ability to impact a game in so many ways, offensively, in the circle, you name it she can be impactful!"

Reese Smith - Bonne Terre, MO - "Reese is quiet but packs a punch.  She can play anywhere on the infield and her ability to be offensively flexible made her very appealing."

Mackenzie Hurst - Warrenton, MO - "Mac is a leader and help a program get back to the final four.  She's a winner, seem like all she know how to do is win."

Jarah Hoffmann - Wentzville, MO - "We really liked the fact J-Bo can play anywhere on the infield.  She understand the game and what is expected from her.  She will be someone we look at in multiple positions."

Mallory kimbrell - New Athens, IL - "Versatile!! Mal can play in the infield or outfield at a high level.  Mal wanted to be at SCC very early, and she will be very successful!

Celia Gildehaus - Washington, MO - "C has potential out of this world! We felt once she choose softball and focused on that only, the sky would be the limit for her."

These nine will join an already talented group of Freshmen.  When asked if this is it for the class of 23', Wengert quickly said, "NO, we hope to add 2 maybe 3 more! We are waiting to her back on some offers, but we like where we are at this point.  This program is on the rise and rising quickly!

The Cougars are scheduled to open up play at home on Feb. 18th, 2023!
