2-2 Week for the Cougars

2-2 Week for the Cougars

The Cougars improve to 9-3 overall after a split in the week's four games.

The Cougars hit the road for the first time this season as the taveled to Neosho to face region foe and #16 in the country Crowder.  The Cougars would get swept in the two game series 10-2 and 13-1.  Hightlights offensively were few and far between, but the Cougars did see Freshmen Janna Joerling blast a 2-run homerun in game one and Paige Perry smack a RBI double in game 2.  However, that is all the offense SCC could muster on the day.

Sophomore Abbey Hultz threw game one for SCC and suffered her first loss on the season.  "I didn't think Abbey threw that bad.  Crowder really hit the ball hard on 2-3 times the entire game. We have to go make plays against teams like this.  We cannot rely on Abbey to get 8,10,12 outs for us all the time," spoke Wengert of game one.  Freshmen Jocelyn Cunningham started game two and the Crowder bats came to life.  "Jocelyn found out today that some college line-ups are pretty good.  We were just over-matched in game two, plain and simple", commented Wengert.

Cold weather postponed games on Thursday and Saturday, but the Cougars add a series with John Wood CC on Sunday.  The warm weather was welcomed and the Cougars found their stride again.  Game one would be all Abbey Hultz, going 7 innings, striking out 11, and collecting 3 hits as well.  Sophomores Emma Becker and Hunter Collins would also add 3 hits a piece.  Collins would tally 3 RBI in game one as well.

Game 2 would see Freshmen Kelly Allensworth recieve her first start of the year and she would answer the bell, going 4 inning of solid stuff in the circle.  McKenna Joern, Sophomore, would collect three innings of relief work and her first save of the year.  Offensively, SCC say Freshmen Bailee Howard collect two hit and a RBI.  Sophomore, Oliva Reed would hit a key double that would score two runs in the second inning.  Emma Becker would hit her third homerun of the year as well.

"If we play solid defense, it doesn't have to be perfect, just solid... I think this team could give trouble to some teams.  I am a big believer in solid defense and we will get it worked out", spoke Wengert.

The Cougars have a busy week ahead of them Tuesday and Wednesday will be home games against, State Fair CC and East Central CC.  SCC will hit the road to Kansas City for a tilt against Metro CC (Maple Woods) and Southeastern CC (Nebraska) on Friday and Saturday.  Stay tuned for updates and makes sure to follow us on social media.  (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)
