Wengert To Take The Reins For SCC Softball Program

St. Charles Community College is pleased to announce the hiring of Dustin Wengert to be the head coach for the softball program, effective immediately.

"I am beyond excited to get things going here at SCC.  I have waited for this chance and been blessed with this fantastic opportunity.  I would like to thank Mr. Tim Brix and Vice President David Leenhouts for taking the time to interview me and give me a shot here at SCC.  I want to thank all the Administration and Board for their trust in leading these young women both on the field and in life.  I am humbled and honored to be a Cougar."

"We are thrilled to have Dustin as our new Head Softball Coach", said Tim Brix, SCC Athletics Director.  "He comes to SCC with a ton of experience, and he is more than ready to lead our softball program.  Dustin has proved he is one of the top recruiters in the softball sector and I'm confident he will bring in fantastic young ladies to represent our program and take it to new heights."

A native of Perryville, Missouri, Wengert comes to SCC from Mineral Area College with a wide background of success.

Wengert, who started with MAC in November of 2019, was just getting into the swing of things, before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Wengert's primary responsibilities included working with the infielders and hitters.  He is also known for his diligent work as a recruiter both locally and nationally.

Prior to his time at MAC he spent 3 season on the softball diamond at Perryville High School, Wengert was the head coach of the girls' softball team at Perryville High School. Wengert led the Pirates to two MSHSAA Class 3 district championship in the three seasons and coached 3 All-State players during that time. The Perryville HS team batted .372 as a team with a .955 fielding percent while going 18-6 in his last season.

Prior to the time at Perryville, Wengert worked as an assistant coach to Steve Bieser, Head Baseball Coach, University of Missouri, in the Prospect League (Danville Dans) in the summer of 2010.  Wengert, coached first base, threw batting practice and helped with the defensive alignment during the games.  The Dans would capture the West Division title that summer.

Wengert has also served as an Assistant Coach at his college alma mater Westminster College, in Fulton MO.  He spent two years there while finishing his degree.  Wengert has also coached high school boys' basketball and girls' soccer, claiming multiple conference, district and even state titles in those.

"I have worked with great coaches, coaches that have taught me and challenged me to be a better coach and person.  Coach Bieser is second to none and I owe a lot to him and his guidance over the years. Bruce Valleroy, has been a guiding light for me as well, he was the one that gave me my first high school coaching job. I have leaned on him since I have been 16 years old, he is one of the very best to ever do it."

Wengert graduated from Westminster College in 2005.  Attended Missouri Baptist University to receive his teaching certification in 2014.  Wengert returned to school and received his Masters in Sports Administration/Coaching from Concordia University-Irvine in the summer of 2017.

Wengert makes his home in Ste. Genevieve, MO, with his wife Regan.  They have three sons Oliver, (8) Louis (6) and Leo (4 months).
