Cougars Softball Starts Off Season 8-2

The women opened up their season on Tuesday, February 23 with a double header victory against Kaskaskia College. Winning the first game 7-4 and the second 10-3.

 

Later in the week, SCC hosted Lincoln Land Community College and No. 7 pre-season ranked Indian Hills Community College for a round robin day. The Cougars took game 1 in walk off fashion against Lincoln Land winning the pitching duel 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning. After watching Indian Hills win against Lincoln Land in the second game of the day, it was the Cougars turn to take on the Nationally Ranked Indian Hills Warriors. The Warriors ultimately came out on top, giving the Cougars their first loss of the young season with a score of 9-3.

 

On Tuesday, March 2nd the women hosted Lewis and Clark and bounced back with 2 wins on the day. Making both games a mercy rule win in 5 innings each – Game one 10-1 and Game two 12-0.

 

It was back to work on Thursday, March 4th as the Cougars welcomed back the recently No. 5 ranked, Indian Hills Warriors. SCC took game one, putting up 10 hits, scoring 7 runs, and holding the Warriors to 3 runs. Game two was off to a great start for the Cougars plating an early 9 runs by the 4th inning, but the Warriors quickly turned it around with a late rally, out scoring SCC 12-9 to wrap up the day.

 

In the latest contest on March 6th, the ladies took their first road trip to Park Hills, MO to take on the Cardinals of Mineral Area College. With a close 6-5 victory for the Cougars in the first game, SCC completed the day with a 5-inning run rule win 11-1 over MAC.

 

The Cougars (8-2) are set to host St. Louis Community College (5-1) tomorrow, March 9th at 1:00 and 3:00 for a double header at home. Fans are welcome, but must wear a mask and social distance.
