The men's soccer team held off Mineral Area College in the Region 16 championship game by a final score of 3-2.  The men have advanced to the District championship to take on the winner of Parkland College or Heartland College.

The game will be held at SCC soccer field on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00pm.  The winner will advance to the NJCAA national tournament in Wichita, KS.  The men are looking to advance to the national tournament in back to back years!

The region championship was an intense game and it was back and forth throughout the game.  SCC came firing out of the gate with a goal by Toki Iwao in the 1st minute of the match.  The goal was assisted by Louis Willis-Falkiner on a beautiful cross.  The game would stay tied the remainder of the first half.  Mineral Area made a comeback and scored 15 minutes into the second half to tie the game at 1-1.  Just five minutes later, Mineral Area would strike again to take a 1-2 lead.

SCC regrouped and Lindo Zimba scored on a header from Henrique Perestrelo in the 73rd minute to tie the game at 2-2.  SCC would make a critical substitution by inserting Ben Allen at the forward position.  Just minutes into entering the match, Ben received a ball from Toki and made a wonderful move to get past the defender to score and take the lead in the 78th minute.  Mineral Area fought back and had chances to tie the game in the remaining twelve minutes, but tremendous defense by Jermaine Mentoor, Dylan Hammond, Louis Willis-Falkiner, Ben Morlen and goal keeper, Pablo Costa, would not allow Mineral Area to tie the game.

The game would end in a 3-2 victory for SCC and the celebration was on!
